“I was amazed by Shooty’s enthusiasm for giving back to the lives of others, especially the youths of Oakland and the Greater Bay Area.  Shooty’s ability to inspire and energize youths; his desire to help them understand their inner leadership potential has truly been a positive contribution to our community.  Shooty is magical with children and teens.  He is a remarkable teacher.  The life lessons he shares with his many students, even those he touches through the game of baseball have a tremendous impact on guiding young people through the game of life.  Our world and youths are so in need of role models and heroes like Shooty, who is compassionate, understanding and gentle.  Shooty  guides by example and reminds our future leaders that it is only with a kind heart, an open mind, a sense of determination and a willingness to make the world a better place for everyone that real change can be accomplished in our local communities and across the globe.”

Dusty Baker International Baseball Academy

“Shooty has been very involved with the Dusty Baker International Baseball Academy  over the past 12 years where he has spoken to and inspired over 1,000 of our students, Dusty’s staff and parents.  Shooty  is a  great visual instructor and demonstrates proper techniques, which is important because kids learn visually.  Shooty has a plan and is very organized in all that he does.  The kids at camp always look forward to having Shooty work with them on the field, but most valuable is his message about the importance of family, respect, integrity, character, education and taking responsibility for one’s actions.  The impact Shooty has on the children is tremendous because every child  walks away with the understanding that there are more important things in life than baseball.  Shooty has a colorful personality that is bigger than life; he is not only entertaining, but he truly speaks from his heart.  For Shooty, it is not just about baseball.  Rather, it is about teaching life lessons and the value of the individual that is most important.”

“I participated in a baseball camp for inner city kids in Compton, CA with Shooty.  With his expertise in baseball and his uncanny sense of humor, Shooty captivated the kids and had their total attention on the subject matter.  Shooty helped the kids develop a love for the game of baseball.  More importantly, the kids felt they had more options in life going forward after the camp.   Shooty’s   presence alone changes the atmosphere wherever he is.  Everyone is drawn to Shooty because of his magnetic personality.”

“From the moment I met Shooty back in 2008, I could tell he is a different kind of person.  He has a great passion for life and he is not afraid to show the world.  Shooty has an impact on everyone around him – his infectious smile and laugh draw everyone to him.  He has made going to work a joy and he has helped everyone understand the game of baseball better through his experiences.  Shooty loves motivating and inspiring people, especially young people.  He is an instructor at heart, whether it is on the diamond or as a father.   The world is a better place with Shooty in it !  It will be an even better place if he can share his knowledge and wisdom through his journey to the next generation.”

"I have always admired Shooty’s creativity, leadership and work ethic.  He not only demonstrates knowledge and mastery of the game of baseball; he also inspires me with his positive attitude.  Shooty is optimistic, confident and is always motivating individuals to seek out the best in any situation.  Shooty’s  leadership qualities and encouraging outlook on life have played a vital role in how I have grown and matured in the early stages of my career.  Shooty is truly an inspiration to me and  he will motivate and inspire every life he touches."

"Shooty is one of the finest individuals I have ever met.  In a profession defined by ego and populated by a high percentage of "not nice" people, I have never seen him attack, demoralize or embarrass anyone. Quite the opposite, Shooty always seems to be the friendliest man in the room.

Shooty is wonderful with kids and he is a relentless worker. Shooty is a Major League Baseball Scout for the New York Mets. Despite his busy scouting schedule, Shooty took time to coach the Albany High School baseball team.  I saw him countless times work one-on-one with the young players, whether it was a tip on a swing or how to catch a ground ball or even just a word of encouragement. Shooty is routinely one of the most upbeat and positive people I know.  On a personal level, I have also watched him take time from his busy days to offer words of encouragement to my boys.  Also noteworthy is when Shooty transitioned into the role as baseball analyst for NBC Sports Bay Area.  Determined to succeed and with his ferocious work ethics, Shooty quickly settled into his role and established great camera presence.  The rest was history...  the entire Bay Area got a glimpse into Shooty Babitt's magnetic personality and his wealth of knowledge and expertise in baseball.

Shooty is an equal-opportunity kind man, and his perspectives on life go far beyond baseball. He's a man of faith and character, and his words of encouragement to me during the spring of 2008 --- when I was going through a rough patch --- were vital to my self-worth and ability to persevere.

Simply put, Shooty Babitt makes everybody who has the privilege of knowing him feel like they are the most important person in the room. I consider my working relationship and friendship with him to be one of the great blessings in my life."

“I have known Shooty for over five years and consider him a personal friend. I have never known anyone who is as passionate or caring about the well-being of children. He is sincere in the words he uses and the things he says to kids.  Shooty knows just how to relate to the kids he is speaking to.

On a personal level, I have witnessed Shooty handle anything that comes his way with humor, intellect, passion, and with a sense of purpose unlike anyone I have ever met. When he talks to you, he makes you feel like you’re the most important person in the room. This is a quality that cannot be taught or learned. It is an instinct that comes from his natural ability to communicate well with people. He can critique you while still being positive. This may be the most important skill that Shooty brings to the table with children and young adults.

I have on many occasions told my kids some things Shooty has said to me. Whether it is advice on how to field a ground ball or the importance of faith and religion, Shooty has taught me how to offer advice to my own kids. And I can’t thank him enough for that.
